Fall Colors Community Walk Well Attended

The Broadwater County Trails Team sponsored the Fall Colors Community Walk on Saturday, September 12th. The walk began at 10 a.m. at the parking area at the end of Canton Lane with introductions of guest speakers and participants. Participants included 17 people and one enthusiastic 3-legged leashed dog that traversed approximately 4 miles on a beautiful Saturday morning (9-12-2026) around Pond 3 of Canyon Ferry Lake.

The Fall Colors hike was coordinated by Trails Committee of BCDC. The walk was a very easy pace. Jessica Bushnell, the Broadwater County Weeds Coordinator, provided pamphlets that she made specifically for this hike on the plants there. The pamphlets included the names and photos of plants and weeds, native and nonnative species. She pointed them out along the walk. She also gave out boot brushes and weed identification booklets.

Al Christophersen shared knowledge of various tree species while we walked. John Hansen and Jake Lydic, from Last Chance Audubon Society, pointed out raptors, sparrows, and many shorebirds. They shared binoculars and a spotting scope for a better view of the water birds. We socialized, learned a lot about local wildlife and habitats, and increased our vocabulary. Snacks and drinks were provided by members of the Trails Committee. For more information about upcoming Trails events, follow BCDC (Broadwater County Development Corporation) on Facebook or contact members of the Trails Committee.

Thanks to everyone who came out and to our guest speakers for sharing their knowledge with the hike participants.
