The Last Chance Community Pow Wow Committee proudly announces the return of one of Helena’s most beloved cultural gatherings — the 27th Annual Last Chance Community Pow Wow, themed “Honor the Children.” From September 25–27, 2026, the Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall will come alive with three powerful days of dancing, drumming, celebration, and community connection. This free, family-friendly event welcomes all nations and all people to join in a weekend that uplifts tradition, strengthens identity, and celebrates the heartbeat of Indigenous culture.

Excitement is already building as dancers, singers, families, and visitors prepare to travel from across Montana and the region. With vibrant grand entries, championship dance competitions, youth specials, vendors, food, and honoring ceremonies, this year’s Pow Wow promises to be one of the most dynamic gatherings in its 27-year history.

At the center of this year’s theme is a teaching carried through generations: our children are sacred. They are the carriers of language, ceremony, humor, and hope. As Darcy O’Dell of the Pow Wow Committee shares, “Our children are sacred. They arrive in this world with their own gifts, their own medicines, and their own connection to Spirit. When we gather under the theme "Honor the Children", we make a promise to protect them, guide them, and create a world where they can grow strong in their identity.”

This year’s Pow Wow invites the entire community, Native and non-Native, to stand together in that promise. To lift up the next generation. To celebrate culture in motion. And to fill the Exhibit Hall with the sound of drums, the beauty of regalia, and the joy of children learning who they are.

The Last Chance Community Pow Wow is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to cultural preservation, youth leadership, and intertribal community connection. In addition to hosting the annual three-day Pow Wow, the organization provides year-round cultural outreach through the Magpie Singers & Dancers, offering presentations in K–12 schools, youth programs, senior communities, churches, and public events across the Helena region.

A cornerstone of this outreach is Demonstration Day, held each year during Pow Wow weekend, where approximately 800 local students participate in hands-on cultural learning. Students experience drumming, dancing, storytelling, and teachings from culture bearers, making Demonstration Day one of the most impactful educational events in the community.

The organization also supports Native youth through scholarships that recognize leadership, cultural commitment, and service. These programs ensure that young people have opportunities to grow strong in their identity and carry cultural teachings forward.

For 27 years, the Last Chance Community Pow Wow has provided a welcoming, alcohol and drug-free space where families, dancers, singers, elders, and community members gather to celebrate heritage and unity in the heart of Montana.
