Join the 4th of July Parade and Celebration

Come one, come all: join Townsend’s 4th of July Parade – that’s the message from the three-man committee who have worked hard to make our 250th Celebration one of the best. Chamber members Doug Sitton and Tom Hay, along with American Legion member Tim Pool, guarantee the event will be fun and fitting for this special occasion.
Sitton invited everyone to participate in the parade. American Legion Post #42 will head up the day with their honor guard. Bring your vintage cars, trucks, tractors, boats, and floats. Bring your kids with dogs, your dogs pulling carts, and your grandmother in her wheelchair. Everyone is welcome. Please register in advance. Please be at Heritage Park on Pine Street just after 11 a.m. Parade starts at 12noon sharp.
After the parade, people are welcome to gather at Heritage Park for a potluck with hamburgers, hot dogs, and pulled pork, free for the taking. If you can bring a side dish, please do. Musicians Carla Amundson and Mary Duede will provide homegrown music.
Now, it won’t stop there. That evening, fireworks are planned by brave men Jake Foster, Tom Hay, and Sitton: they’ll set off a short burst of fireworks right after dark. Virgil Henke has generously offered his hayfield, placed strategically across the tracks from Broadway and Front Streets, so gather up your lawn chairs to view the fireworks finale.
Big Sky Fireworks of Helena will provide the fireworks.
Sitton explained Broadway Street will be closed to traffic from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. between Front Street and Spruce Street so people can watch the display from Broadway Street.
