Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office Making Progress for all Residents

The Sheriff’s Office officially hired a resident deputy for southern Broadwater County who will begin service on June 24, 2026. With the retirement of Deputy Lewis and the medical retirement of Deputy Reynolds, hiring a southern Broadwater deputy was prioritized.

The Broadwater County Sheriff’s Office also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office. The MOU is a major step forward in improving public safety in the Three Forks area, and the partnership will significantly increase law enforcement coverage along our shared county borders.

With deputies now residing in multiple locations throughout the county, we will reduce response times and strengthen our ability to serve you when it matters most. These improvements benefit the entirety of Broadwater County and reinforce our commitment that every citizen, no matter where they live, deserves dependable, professional law enforcement service.

Another upcoming change is the introduction of a Hybrid Detention/Deputy program that allows a detention officer to also function as a sworn deputy assigned to the detention center. The intent is to maximize the capacity of current personnel and available funding and allow for another trained deputy without significantly increasing costs. The program ensures we have additional coverage when deputies are injured, on leave, or when vacancies occur.

Lastly, the Sheriff’s Office is working to finalize a contract with the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR). Under this agreement, the Hybrid Deputy will provide service during the busy summer months, with the BOR covering the cost of that deputy’s salary, which establishes a cost-effective solution and an increased patrol presence when it matters most.

These efforts are just a few of the steps being taken by the Sheriff’s Office to ensure the people of Broadwater County have the law enforcement coverage necessary to keep both our community and our deputies safe.
