Journalism Scholarship Won by Kaitlyn Noyes

It is interesting how one year as a Future Farmers of America Club reporter will spark your desire to learn how to write.

Recently graduated Kaitlyn Noyes applied for and won the Rotary journalism scholarship and will use it to take courses in journalism at Montana State University this fall. She will take those along with her major in business marketing and graphic design. All those courses will hone her communication skills.

Noyes, one of the co-valedictorian-salutatorians of her class, said she really enjoyed interviewing people to put together stories about the club’s activities when she wrote for FFA two years ago.

Noyes said she’ll kick back this summer before she dives into college, going to her sister’s wedding and travelling to Europe with the Bulldogs Beyond group. Her summer will be filled with her final 4-H activities and helping on her family’s farm. She will miss high school but will look forward to life at MSU.

Townsend Rotary offered the $2,000 scholarship through donations given in memory of 45-year newspaper writer Hugh van Swearingen, who passed away in 2024.
