Family of Patricia "Patty" Montanye

Patricia "Patty" Montanye passed away peacefully in her home on May 11th, 2026, after a year-long battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Patty was born in Mankato, Minnesota, on May 26th, 1944, to Matt and Joyce Reed. They later moved to Spokane, WA, where she grew up.

Later, Patty moved to Deerborn, MT, where her mother and stepdad lived. She then went to work at the Deerborn Inn. Patty's line of work was as a waitress and bartender all her life. Bill and Bob Montanye owned the Deerborn Inn. Their dad, Bob Montanye SR, helped out there. Bob Sr. and Patty started dating and later married. They moved to Townsend, MT, where Bob lived and they had a wonderful life for 18 years until Bob's passing in 2011. She just loved to hear Bob sing and play his guitar. They had a lot of friends and did a lot of things together.

Patty was one heck of a pool player and was on several leagues in Townsend through the years. Patty loved to go to yard sales and to have yard sales. Most of her household furnishings are from yard sales. Patty was very creative and did a lot of remodeling in her house. She loved her house and the neighborhood and had great neighbors, especially Kelly and Lorie Morris.

After Bob's passing, Patty and Lyle Bird got together and they had a wonderful life together for about 15 years. Lyle took her out to Spokane to see her brother Ron and sister-in-law Debbie many times. Patty and Lyle liked to play golf and went around the state to different courses or they would travel to different places just to see the beauty of Montana. Patty also liked to fish off the shore at Canyon Ferry Lake.

Patty did not like the winter or the cold, but she loved the spring and summer. She especially loved sitting in her backyard under her new gazebo that her grandsons, Lorin and Trenton, built for her. It was very special for her, especially when her lilacs were in bloom.

Patty always had a good rapport with Bill and Bobby Montanye and she loved Lyle's family, who welcomed her into their hearts. Lorin and Byron Byrd were there in a heartbeat if she ever needed anything. Patty just loved the daughter that she never had, Martha, and her beautiful granddaughters, Rita, Melanie, and Hayden. Lyle's son Byron, was also one of Patty's favorites, and Lenny, Byron's son.

Patty had many friends: Susan from Spokane, the late Betty McCarther, Beth Allaway, Phyllis and Vince Vogl, Jeanette and Paul Vogl, Glenda and Ken Toney, Sally Bruce, Dave and Ingrid Clouse, and Dave Kearns.

Patty just loved Diane, Rachael, and Amber at the Fishtale. Her special friends lately were Linda and Bill Morrish, Birdi Kribs and Amie Taylor. Amie nursed Patty and was with her until the very end. There was genuine love there by both. Patty prayed for an angel and Amie came. It was truly an honor and a blessing for Amie.

Patty is survived by her brother Ron and his beautiful and wonderful wife Debbie in Spokane, her son Jason in Spokane and her two grandsons, Brooks and Fisher, as well as all of Lyle's family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob Montanye, and her two sons, Terry and Jesse.

Patty requested no services, just a get together.
