Early registration for next year’s Kindergarten and Prekindergarten classes will open at Townsend Elementary on February 1st. Any child who turns 5 years old by September 10, 2026, is eligible. If you are registering your child for Kindergarten or Prekindergarten, you may do so while school is in session, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
All children registered for Kindergarten and Prekindergarten must be screened for school readiness. This includes vision, hearing and a skills assessment. All early registrations received by April 8, 2026, will
receive an appointment for Kindergarten Roundup on April 10, 2026, which is where the screening will occur. Any registrations received after that date will be scheduled for screening at the beginning of the next school year.
If you are interested in the early literacy and learning program (Prekindergarten), any child who turns 4 by September 10, 2026, may qualify. To qualify, the child must be screened. Students who are registered by April 8 will be screened at the Kindergarten Roundup. They will also receive a readiness assessment at a later date. To actually qualify for Prekindergarten, the students must test at or below a certain level on this readiness assessment and complete the assessments given during Kindergarten Roundup.
Please note, there will be no preschool or kindergarten classes on April 10th, 2026, since the teachers will be assisting with the screening during the Kindergarten Roundup.
