Did Townsend Get an Influx of Angry People in a Hurry All the Time?
I mentioned last week about folks who don’t know about the parking lanes and what to do at the red blinking light. This has intensified! Within the last 2 weeks, while trying to turn (going east) from Broadway onto North Walnut, I actually waited for an oncoming westbound vehicle to pass me. I stopped, as there is only one lane on Broadway! But NOOooo, some person in a flaming hurry (also going east) couldn’t wait. They passed me on the right, in the parking lane! Roaring passed going about 40 MPH. What was the hurry? I’m sorry if you were going to miss the “View” on TV. I stopped for all of about 3 minutes, whoa, far too much time, I guess.
A few days after that, I was going home. Same corner, same direction. A person was coming out of N. Walnut, turning east. Since I was going to turn to N. Walnut, I motioned him to go ahead and turn. Trying to be neighborly, he finally understood I wanted him to go first and moved out. He then gives me the Bird! What did I do? Folks more and more are saying, “No good deed goes unpunished." I guess it’s so, it seems like we can’t be polite anymore. Yesterday, while down on Broadway, some…person…sped out of a parking place in one hell of a hurry. Fishtailing side to side all the way. There have been several speeders all over town lately, on the side streets, too! All it’s going to take is ONE child to be killed, then all hell had better be let loose! If not…It’s open season!
Many people, even up here, don’t like the word "vigilantes". This is America. We were founded on fixing your problems! If you need to call the police, do it. If not, have you heard the country song: “Don’t try that in a small town?” Yeah, hey, new folks, this isn't West or East Coast. Don’t be in such a hurry; you are on Montana time now! Most times around here, you will see a couple of pickups side by side in the street, the drivers talking. Most always, they leave plenty of room for others to pass. If not, they will say a quick goodbye and leave the road open. It’s a country thing, ya know.
Maybe if you are all in so much of a hurry, you should get an earlier start. Remember: too many children are walking around our streets; they could be hit and killed by some jackanape trying to beat the light. School is still in session. Watch where you are going! Stay safe; stay aware of people around you. Enjoy our…” winter” or whatever this is.
