“The Masquerade”

“Brilliant Success Both Numerically and Financially”

“Gay Costumes”

There is no longer a doubt in the minds of Townsend people of the ability to gather a crowd at the Auditorium. The masquerade given by Mrs. Bubser in connection with her dancing school demonstrates beyond question that there are plenty of those who love the terpsichorean art, and will turn out when a good time is assured.

Mrs. Bubser displayed good business ability in managing every detail of this affair. In the first place, she used printer's ink profusely, both in display posters and through the columns of the local paper.

Before dancing began, the usual gallery seats were filled, as well as all of the spare room on the stage and immediately surrounding the orchestra. The floor space being given entirely to those who participated in the ball.

The musical program was never better in Townsend and those who participated in dancing seemed to vie with each other in their effort to outshine.

Prizes were given as follows:

For gentleman wearing finest costume, a box of Lord Chancellor cigars – D.J. McLean

Lady wearing the finest costume, a picture – Carrie Holloway.

Lady wearing the most comical costume four pounds of candy - Hattie Zimmerman.

Gentleman wearing the most comical costume a case of perfume – Joe Faltermyer

For ticket prizes, a Gordon hat – Cliff Gordon. A gold chain and locket – Rae West. A fine buggy whip – Austin McMahon. A box of cigars – Sam Perkins.

All in all the entertainment was a marked success as will be testified by large delegations from all parts of the county.
