The annual Lions and Rotary Senior Dinner and Light Tour dates back to 2006. Members of the Lions Club brought forward the idea of sponsoring a dinner for the Townsend Area Senior Citizens and doing a tour of the Christmas Lights in Townsend.
The event has grown to be a two-night event. This year, the dinner/light tour served over 80 seniors. Rides to the event were provided to those seniors who asked for help getting to the event. Poinsettias were sent to the homes of those who were unable to attend.
Nineteen years later, the event is still a popular and well attended event. The Lions Club and Rotary Club co-sponsor the dinner at the Townsend Senior Center. This year, the dinner was catered by Angie Wintrow and her crew. A wonderful dinner consisting of salad, ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and all the coffee/tea/water we could drink was served by members of the Lions and Rotary clubs. Each attendee received a bag of holiday cookies to enjoy and take home - if they didn't eat them all immediately.
One of the always enjoyable highlights of the dinner is a spirited “competition” between the Lions and Rotary about the history, membership and community projects completed by both clubs. This year, Gary Olsen represented the Lions Club and Jeff Langlinais represented the Rotary Club.
After the dinner, the Seniors were taken on a tour of the Townsend Christmas Lights. The Townsend Schools activity bus was available for Seniors that were able to board the bus. Billings Clinic Broadwater provided their transportation van for those seniors not able to board the bus.
Everyone in attendance had a wonderful time! Thank you, Lions and Rotary members, for another memorable dinner and light tour.
