Bulldogs Suffer Close Loss in Columbus

On Friday, October 24th, the Bulldogs varsity football team travelled to Columbus to play the Cougars. Both teams held 3-2 conference record, so this game would be a battle for 3rd and 4th place in the Southern B division.
The first quarter began with the Bulldogs in possession. Soon, Columbus forced the Bulldogs to fumble the ball. The Cougars scored a touchdown, but they missed the extra point. On the next possession, the Bulldogs were forced to punt to the Cougars. Colombus scored another touchdown and had a successful two-point conversion. The Bulldogs ended the first quarter down 0-14.
As the second quarter began, the Bulldogs started with possession but were forced to punt. Bulldog defense line ended Columbus’s possession defense, forcing the Cougars to punt. Then the Bulldogs were forced to punt, which gave Columbus the ball. Tannen Tufflemire had an interception from a pass tipped by Trenton Hoveland. With the Bulldogs in possession, Tavyn Anderson threw a pass to Jim Tew to score a touchdown. Logan Johnson scored the extra point. The Bulldog defense forced Columbus to punt. Bradan Martin had a good return. Logan Johnson kicked a 24-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs 3 points. Then the Bulldogs kicked to the Cougars. With Columbus in possession, Tanner Bird sacked the Cougars’ quarterback. The score going into the second half was 10-14 with the Cougars ahead.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs' defense forced Columbus to turn the ball over on downs. The Bulldogs’ possession ended and they punted the ball. The Bulldogs' defense forced Columbus to turn the ball over again. The Bulldogs had a long offensive possession, which ended with a touchdown when Tavyn Anderson threw a 35-yard pass to Tannen Tufflemire. The extra kick by Logan Johnson was good and the Bulldogs were up 17-14. On Columbus’s next possession, Tavyn Anderson caught the ball in an interception, which gave the Bulldogs the ball going into the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs attempted a 37-yard field goal, but it failed. Columbus gained possession but was soon forced to turn over the ball. Bulldog possession then ended when they were forced to punt. Columbus had a long offensive possession that ended in a touchdown. They attempted a two-point conversion, but it was unsuccessful. The Bulldogs again gained possession but were unable to score, which made the Cougars winners of the close and hard-fought game.
The Bulldogs will travel to a playoff game in Red Lodge on Saturday, November 1st, at 1 pm.
