Bulldog Alum Doing Well at Carroll

I just love getting to see our local BHS graduates being successful at the college level! This last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending a football game at Carroll College and doing just that.
Former Bulldog standout athlete Gavin Vandenacre is currently a Redshirt Junior receiver for the Fighting Saints football team. And I would say he is doing a great job for the Saints, averaging 13 yards per catch and 42 yards per game, and he has 3 touchdowns so far this year.
I asked Gavin about being able to play college ball so close to home and he said, “It’s amazing. Not only do I get to be close to family and all the people I know, I also get to play with a lot of the guys I knew playing high school ball.”
Making that transition from High School sports to College sports can be difficult for a lot of athletes. When asked what that was like for him, Gavin said, “The skill level is so much higher. The biggest adjustment for me was learning how to compete every day to earn my spot on the team. Especially coming from a Class B school, that was a lot different.”
Asked what advice he would give to high school athletes who want to play at the next level, Gavin said, “Don’t take any day for granted. Every day is an opportunity to strive for the goal that you want to reach. And I would say write down your goals… what you actually want to achieve, and from that you can determine what you need to do to achieve that goal.” That is excellent advice for anybody!
Off the field, Gavin is studying finance and is set to graduate this coming spring. He plans to work in business finance after graduating. I have no doubt that this young man will be successful at whatever path he chooses! But he definitely plans on coming back to play for Carroll next year in his final season of eligibility. I highly encourage everyone to come out to a Carroll game to watch Gavin play! It will make you proud!
