Charlie Kirk Memorial
Over 100,000 people attended the Charlie Kirk memorial this past Sunday, with millions more streaming online. Nearly every member of the current cabinet was in attendance, including the VP and president.
This memorial service was incredible, not just for the “show of it all” but for the proclamations and truths made. There were over 5 hours of gospel testimony, doctrinal statements, proclamation of truth, confronting evil, and calls for all of us to be saved by Jesus. None of it was mean or harsh, but instead kind and loving.
The event was theologically significant on so many levels, and I was truly astounded by it all. Pastor Rob McCoy shared a strong gospel testimony, professing a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior. He clearly brought to light the Christian faith at the center of Charlie Kirk’s life and teaching.
Frank Turek spoke of penal substitutionary atonement, a deep theological understanding and Christian doctrine that is missing from most of the Christian understanding and Christian churches in America today. Most of the speakers aren’t known for theological statements and spoke of spiritual warfare, good versus evil, the heart, soul, and future of America.
Erika Kirk said the greatest call in Charlie’s life was trying to revive the American Family and God’s vision for marriage. He had such a passion to save young men just like the one who took his life.
Many will argue this was all a display of “civil religion” or “spiritual patriotism”. But I would say that is not the case. There were many invitations to repent, believe, trust, and come to Christ. I didn’t see politics on display, but Charlie Kirk's life was remembered as a sinner saved by Grace. There were a lot of things said yesterday that weren’t required, but said because they were intentional, mattered, and essential!
