The American Legion Post #42 hosted a free dinner to honor veterans and the public on Friday. It sold out! According to Post Commander Linda Cousineau, the post opted to host the dinner rather than to organize a parade. “We did a parade for Memorial Day. We decided a dinner would be a great event for people to visit and still honor our veterans,” she explained.
Following the dinner, those who stayed enjoyed dancing to the music of local musician Jerry Willet. Post #42 Legion members who organized the dinner dance were Mark Boaz, Chef Dave Corner, Holly Hendrickson, Debbie and Larry Westfal, Johnny and Karon Kougioulis and Commander Cousineau.
Townsend’s Post #42 and their Auxiliary members are an active veterans’ family group who arrange veterans’ memorials, organize floats for the rodeo parade and the Chamber’s Christmas Stroll. They give $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors and are promoting citizenship awareness in Townsend Elementary school grades. “We also support our first responders and our younger family members handle our aluminum can collection at the Cedar Street garbage location. Funds we collect from selling aluminum cans pay for the scholarships each year, “she said.
