Helping Hands
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment regarding the recent sale and closure of Helping Hands, a local institution that has long served our community. The impact of this decision cannot be overstated. What once was a beacon of support for countless individuals and families will now be something else, a reminder of how our community's needs have been sidelined by those who have the power to make a difference but seem to prioritize profit over people.
Helping Hands has been a cornerstone of our town, providing vital services that many have come to rely on. It has been more than just a facility; it has been a symbol of the values we hold dear, compassion, connection, and a shared responsibility for one another. For years, we’ve been able to count on its presence, and its closure will leave a gaping hole, one that will undoubtedly be felt for years to come.
What is perhaps most infuriating is the lack of transparency surrounding this decision. The community was given little to no warning, and no real explanation has been offered about why such a vital service will be shut down. We have every right to ask why this is happening, and yet, our concerns have been met with silence.
It’s especially frustrating given the growing needs of our town. Townsend may be small, but that does not mean we don’t have big challenges. More and more families are struggling, and services like Helping Hands were often the first place people turned to for support. To lose that in such a callous manner speaks volumes about where the priorities of those involved truly lie.
I urge the people responsible for this closure to reconsider their actions and think about the lasting impact on our community. And to our local leaders, I implore you to step up, speak out, and do everything in your power to restore this critical resource or replace it with something that can fill the void left behind.
We deserve more than this.
Sincerely,
Heather Rolfs
