The annual anti-drug week that the Student Council puts on took place May 19th through the 22nd. Safe- As- A- Bulldog Week happened differently this year: They had dress-up days and games throughout the week.
The dress-up days had themes. Monday was 'put drugs to rest.’ The students wore pajamas. Students took advantage of this comfortable–clothing day, as did some of the faculty. Tuesday was 'team up against drugs,’ or jersey day. Wednesday was less complicated, which encouraged students to participate. It was 'put a cap on drugs.' Everyone wore a hat or cap of some sort, including raccoon hats or giant squid hats. The final day was 'be safe as a bulldog.’ Students wore blue and white to end the week.
Many activities took place, including during the lunch hour. On Wednesday, a school-wide bingo event took place throughout the day. The Student Council members would announce 3 to 5 bingo spots. The two cards were activities or sayings. Student Council members awarded prizes to the bingo and blackout winners. The bingo winners received a donut. Blackout winners received a Deep Creek Pizza Co. gift card. Students flooded the hallways to fill the last few slots. Three lucky students beat the crowd. Jazel Ragen, Kaitlyn Noyes, and Gavin Greene took home the blackout wins.
Thursday, teacher Joe Horne led a nature walk. Any students who wanted to walk could join. A total of 53 students and 6 teachers walked around town to enjoy the fresh air and promote anti-drug activities. Everyone enjoyed the activity, including Mason Bauman and Ryan Christensen, who invented their own game. As they walked along the street, they would pick a car going by and estimate how much the car would cost. They each tallied the totals of car values. The one with the largest amount won. Everyone laughed as they listened to these two play their game. Ryan won the game.
This week was the last spirit week for the school year. Students at Broadwater High participated and loved it. The week was a great break from the stress of the end of school as well as a great way to promote healthy activities before students head into the summer season. The Student Council did a good job with their annual tradition.
