Governor Greg Gianforte recently awarded James Washburn and JD Douglas, two Fish, Wildlife and Parks employees, the Outstanding Service Award in Bozeman, according to an FWP release. The men received the award for their exceptional response to a fatal traffic accident at Silos Road February 14 of this year.
Washburn, who is a Block Management Technician in Region 3 and has lived in Townsend more than 15 years, arrived at the accident scene and he and Assistant Chief Warden Douglas administered first aid until first responders arrived.
Gianforte said in the statement: “A true public servant steps up in time of need, and that’s exactly what these outstanding Montanans did. Their quick thinking and selfless actions in the face of tragedy reflect the best of Montana. We’re grateful for their service and proud to recognize their extraordinary efforts.”
In the May/June Montana Outdoors magazine, FWP Director Christy Clark praised the men for their courage and professionalism. She pointed out FWP employees are available to answer questions, relay thoughts and concerns, but also in the face of sudden challenges and true emergencies, both Washburn and Douglas did so bravely.
