Kristi Sangray Candidate for Townsend School District Board

Kristi Sangray, 43, is running for the open seat on the Townsend School District Board. The mail-in election closes Tuesday, May 6. She is running for the seat vacated by Daniel Truesdell, one of five positions on the board.
Sangray is currently the White Sulphur District School business manager. Her background is in school education including ten years when she worked in Townsend Schools as a paraprofessional, elementary school office secretary and finally as School District clerk. If she wins the position, she would like to focus on efficient school board meetings and more staff and student support, whether that involves adapting effective curriculum. She would encourage looking for more sources of funding, including writing grants “in this climate of limited funding,” she pointed out.
Sangray emphasized more support for who she called “middle-of-the road” students. We need to encourage them to attend school on a regular basis. "Teachers can teach best when kids are in school regularly,” she pointed out.
Sangray spoke to dual credit courses for higher achieving students: “The Montana Digital Academy offers courses that give our students a jumpstart for college. The program can be used for students who get behind in their studies as well.”
She pointed out she feels it is good to have a mix of people with different backgrounds on the school board. “They bring strengths and experience to the table that help students to receive their highest potential in school," she said.
Sangray and her husband, Travis, have two children, one in college and the other is a graduating senior this year at Broadwater High School.
Current members on the board are President Jason Noyes, Chase Ragen, Vanessa Flynn, and Jason Kool.
