THREE FORKS, Mont: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) plans to improve traffic operations at the West Three Forks Interchange, the Interstate 90 (I-90) with US Highway 287 (US 287) junction west of Three Forks near Wheat Montana. Proposed improvements for the West Three Forks Interchange Improvements project include redesigning the interchange and ramp modifications to address current and future operational needs.

“This project will help to reduce congestion on I-90 ramps,” said MDT Consultant Design Engineer Roy Peterson. “Many of us have firsthand experience with traffic congestion at the US 287 and I-90 Interchange because of growing development in the area. This project is a step toward improving traffic flow and enhancing roadway safety facilities as the Gallatin Valley continues to expand.”

The project team is currently evaluating alternative configurations for the West Three Forks Interchange. Once an alternative is identified, this project will move into the design phase.

MDT is leading this project in partnership with DOWL, the engineering consultant.

Respect the zone, so we all get home.
